STP 161 Bumerang – Cap-Gris-Nez – Peilstand

STP 161 Bumerang, Cap-Gris-Nez

62179 Audinghen
(Parking Lot)

Accessible on the outside only

This is an easy location to find and there is ample public parking available. You will have to hike a little way but the walk will do you good and the coastal scenery is breathtaking.

If you are coming from the Audinghen area from the south keep driving north on the D191 road. There is a large public parking lot where you can park then walk your way down to the coastal trail. There is a lighthouse which you can't miss when driving to the Cap-Gris-Nez area plus parking for the Federal employees who work in the adjacent building there, don't park in that lot it's not for the public.

There are a number of bunker remains that belong to STP Bumerang in the area. We will touch on these as you progress through this section.

After parking your car walk south until you pass the lighthouse, keep walking the coastal trail and you will see the bunker to your right. It is not accessible but can be visited on the outside.

I used two different cameras on the 2016 visit. The Nikon Coolpix 35mm and the Apple iPhone Six Plus.

Asides from the Peilstand there are also a fine number of VF type bunkers that belong to the STP 161.

You will have to head in the opposite direction from the parking lot and walk north. There are usually sheep grazing in the field across the fence line, so mind the sheep and just walk until you see a small foot bridge, the bunker remains lie directly ahead.

Sheeps and bunkers - Make sure you avoid the sheep and make a B line to the bunker remains which lie ahead.

The Peilstand or observation bunker as seen from across the fence line.

VF bunker, this one is accessible.

A small VF bunker south of the parking lot.

The lighthouse in the background and the path that leads to the bunker remains.

The inside is reinforced with corrugated iron.

Another observation bunker at the northern most tip of the Cap-Gris-Nez, affixing her gaze across the channel all these years later.
